Combined ophthalmoscope and slit-lamp

Ophthalmoscopes. -An ophthalmoscope, which may be adjusted for use as a slit-lamp or as a retinoscope comprises a source of illumination 4, a condenser 5, a pair of focussing lenses 12, 14, an oblique mirror 22 and a battery of inspection lenses 17, different stopping means, Figs. 5-7, being provided for use between the condenser 5 and the focussing lenses 12, 14, one having the form of a slit. The mirror 22 is pivoted on a mounting 19, which itself is supported on a pivot 20 the axis of this pivot being out of line with the centre of the mirror. The battery of lenses 17 is mounted on a slide movable in the direction of the axis of the instrument and carries a wedge 18 co-operating with a wedge 19 on the back of the pivoted mirror 22, thus tilting the mirror. One of the focusing lenses 14 is pivoted so that it may be used for slit-lamp illumination. An additional mirror 23 may be used alternatively with the mirror 22 being formed of metal so that reflection takes place from a single surface.
