298,654. Vignale, O. R. May 7, 1927. Teeth, artificial; teeth, regulating.- Apparatus for use in making artificial dentures and in orthodontia comprises (1) a bite register, Figs. 1 and 2 similar in construction to that described in Specification 191,442 but having rearward projections k' from the chin-piece, corresponding to the lower jaw and adapted at their free ends k3 to enter boxes m1 attached to the main framework so that, on movement of the patient's jaw, impressions corresponding to said movements are formed in softened plastic material in the boxes m1; (2) an articulator, Figs. 4 and 6, the upper and lower members q, p of which are flexibly connected by springs p1, p2, and the lower member p of which is formed with projections p3 engaging the hardened plastic material in the boxes m1 which have been transferred from the bite register to the upper member q, so that the movements of the patient's jaw may be reproduced; and (3) a gauge, Fig. 7, comprising bars s, s1, s2 arranged in the form of an adjustable equilateral triangle and troughs s3 containing wax on which the arches of the teeth may be scribed by a pivoted wire s10 the gauge then serving as a guide in setting up the teeth. The bite register is adjustable to the size of the patient's head and its chin-piece k with the extensions k2 is connected to the fixed parts of the framework by links h4, h6 and springs l1, o corresponding to the muscles controlling the natural jaw. A forked rod r5 adjustably held in a member r - - r1, itself, adjustably carried by the chin-piece, is pressed into the wax bite block within the patient's mouth and is transferred therewith to the articulator, as shown in Fig. 6 The models are then fitted to the wax base plates of the bite block and are plastered to the plates q3, p9 of the articulator. The upper plate q3 of the articulator is carried by a bar q2 hinged to the upper member q at q1 but adapted to be locked thereto when required by a screw q4. The gauge, Fig. 7, is secured in the member r - - r4 on the articulator by means of its rod s4 which replaces the forked member r5 after the latter, together with the bite block has been removed. The Provisional Specification describes also minor modifications of the bite register, and a modified gauge in which the wax troughs are replaced by flexible steel bands carried in slotted blocks at the corners of the triangle formed by the bars s, s1, s2.
