Statistical apparatus.-Apparatus for compiling statistics from a perforated strip as described in Specifications 282,664, 301,803, and 301,804 is provided with electrical means whereby summary strips of any desired kind are perforated automatically under the control of the preceding perforated strip (or strips) which is read for this purpose as it is passed alternately backwards and forwards through the machine. The data in each column may be represented in the Hollerith manner by a single perforation placed differentially in a column of twelve perforation index points, or the data may be represented by a code having four or five index positions. Further, when a column is read the number therein may be transmitted to the electric device perforating the new sheet by a single impulse or by a number of impulses equal to the number of the digit. The apparatus may function for the first four rules and for involution. The direction in which the strip is fed is controlled by a special perforation in the first and last fields of the strip. It is stated that key mechanism may be used to perforate the strips to represent any desired data and in a modification of this a workman may be provided with a key the double wards of which represent the units and tens of his control number, this key effecting perforation of the control number and other data on the strip. German Specifications 304,735/15 and 304735/23 are referred to. Specification 268,850, [Class 31 (ii), Punching and perforating machines &c.], also is referred to.
