Trusses.-An abdominal support or like surgical appliance having resilient straps B, B1 each pivotally connected to triangular plates A, A1 by a single screw D threaded into a metal reinforcement piece A4, is characterized by the pivotal movement of the straps B, B1 on the screws D being restricted by a member E, of which downturned portions E2 engage the sides of the pieces A4 and upturned portions E1 engage the edges of the straps. The pieces A4 have a number of threaded holes A5, any one of which may receive the screw D. The extent of the pivoting of the straps B, B1 is determined by the spacing of the flanges E1. The screws D have plain shoulders which pass through the straps and abut against the members E, the down turned portion E2 of which prevent the leather covering of the plates A, A1 from rising adjacent to the pieces A4. The straps are sheathed in leather or other material B2, B3 and back pads C, C1 are provided. Guards B4 slidable on the straps B, B1, cover the heads of the screws D. The invention may be applied to the support described in Specification 273,628.
