Ornamenting blocks and tiles. - Tiles, slabs, blocks and other articles formed of fireclay or other clay or mixtures thereof are decorated by coating the plastic surface with water or other liquid which may contain clay or a colouring agent, working up a slurry on the surface by means of a brush or otherwise, and depositing thereon one or more colours in liquid or dust form which are allowed to flow or creep to produce varying shades of colour. After absorption and drying, the tiles are fired, preferably once. The decorated surface may be plain or embossed.
