324,017. Carpmael, A., (I. G. Farbenindustrie Akt.-Ges.). Oct. 12, 1928. Halogenated dinaphthylene dioxides are prepared by treating dinaphthylene dioxide with a halogenating agent, preferably in a high boiling organic solvent. In examples di-, tetra- and deca-chlordinaphthylene dioxide are obtained by chlorinating dinaphthylene dioxide dissolved in trichlorbenzene, and by bromination of the parent material dissolved in this solvent the di- and tetra-bromo derivatives are prepared. These products are pigment dyestuffs applicable for the manufacture of oil and printing colours. In examples a printing colour is prepared by mixing a paste of tetrachlordinaphthylene dioxide with a suspension of aluminium hydroxide, filtering, drying and grinding the product with printer's varnish. An oil colour is prepared by grinding a dibromdinaphthylene dioxide with heavy spar and compounding the product with linseed oil by grinding.
