Darning.- A holding handle for a needle for repairing " ladders " in knit goods has a part reciprocated mechanically, pneumatically or electrically, for operating the needle. The form illustrated shows a pneumatically operated device. The usual latch needle 10 for catching-up and re-looping the cross threads of the " ladder " is secured to the plug 11 in the bottom of a piston 5. The piston works in a casing 1 which can pivot about the dished thumb-and-finger grip 9, the spindle 8 of which engages a slot 7 in the piston to limit its motion. The top of the piston is provided with a washer 4. In operation, pneumatic impulses, as by a cam operating on a bulb, are caused to enter the casing 1 at 12 to operate on the top of the piston against the spring 6. The plug 11 may contain several needles suitably secured against rotation on their axes, Fig. 4.
