326,979. Heywood - Wakefield Co. Dec. 28, 1928, [Convention date]. Cane and like fabrics. - Filler strands are woven with stakes, protruding lengths of which are bent and are held by a templet during the insertion of fitch strands. The stakes and strands are made of reed, reed fibre, wire-cored fibre, &c., or of twisted paper which may be dyed to produce pattern. A shorter stake 4a, Fig. 2, may be woven in with each main stake 1. The edges of the fabric are trimmed, the ends of the filler strands 2 being bound with metal strips 6, Fig. 4, a line of fitching 7 is added and the fabric is held by pins 12 on a templet 8, Fig. 8, which has a hinged extension 9. The projecting stake ends 4, 4a, are crossed, and are held in position by pins 11. A second line of fitching 15 is inserted and the templet extension is brought into operative position. The stake ends are engaged with the pins 18 for the addition of a third line of fitching 20 and then trimmed parallel to this line. The fitching holds the structure in shape after removal from the templet. The stake ends 5 are intertwined to form a selvage 22, Fig. 7, and the stake ends 21 serve for fixing the material to the framework of furniture &c.,
