Drilling.-In automatic means for disengaging a clutch at the end of an operation, for machinetools and other purposes, a slide moving in parallelism with the clutch and directly engaging the movable member thereof is tripped to allow declutching by a transversely-moving slide. As applied to a drilling-machine, wherein the drillshaft a is fed down by a rack b and pinion c on a feed-shaft d, the driving-clutch member e for the shaft d is put into engagement by a knob p and is held in against a spring l by a horizontal slide f which has a nose engaging a groove k in the part e and abuts at i against a lug on a vertical slide g. The slide 9 is normally held up by a spring o, but is depressed to trip the clutch at the end of the feed by a tappet-screw h associated with the drill-shaft a, being then held down by the projecting part of the slide f. An inclined surface m on the slide f and an inclined or other surface n on the slide g coact to move the member e positively should the spring l fail. The slide g may be lowered manually by an arm s on a shaft r having rack-and-pinion engagement q therewith.
