Planing and shaping.-A tool box 2 of a planing &c. machine is swung clear of the work on the return stroke of the table by a piston 6 operated through a cock 8 actuated by tappets 13, 13a on a revising rod from a compressed air reservoir 10. A plunger 16 of the air compressor is operated by the table at one end of the stroke, or the compressor may be carried by the table and caused to strike a stationary abutment. Similar means may be provided to return the tool box. The invention is applicable to machines with a reciprocating tool.
