Synchronizing dynamo-electric machines. - A method for controlling the D.C. voltage of a rotary convertor or like machine during starting and synchronizing when starting from the A.C. side comprises a resistance 2 in series with the field winding 3, a contactor 4 with operating coil 6 which is normally closed to short circuit the resistance 2 through contacts 5 and 4 and a relay 9 which closes when the D.C. voltage rises to a pre-determined value. The closing of relay 9 energizes the operating coil 6 of contactor 4, opens contacts 5 and places a predetermined amount of resistance 11 in the field circuit. When the D.C. voltage falls the relay 9 opens and contactor 4 closes again short circuiting resistance 2. The change over switch 10 shown in the " start" position is moved over after starting is completed cutting out contactor 4 and relay 9.
