Improvements in and relating to processes for removing naphthalene from coal distillation gases

Materials for purifying; washing processes.- In purifying coal gas by removing naphthalene, the gas is compressed and bubbled through a naphthalene solvent, and is then cooled to precipitate solvent vapour and naphthalene. Naphthalene oil, benzol washing oil, steamvolatile portions of washing oil, tar oil or anthracene oil may be used. A temperature of 30‹ C. and 1¢ atmosphere pressure are preferred. The solvent particles precipitated from the gas on cooling are separated and used for washing. The solvent saturated with naphthalene may be cooled, e.g. to room temperature, to separate naphthalene, and re-used. The bulk of the naphthalene may be removed at the bubbling or at the cooling stage. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 304,145.
