Parachutes. - In order to prevent a violent shock upon the material of a parachute or upon the parachute cords when the parachute opens, the parachute cable is looped at one or more points by a series of frangible cords adapted to be successively tensioned when the parachute opens and thus to dissipate the kinetic energy of the falling body by their rupture. The invention may be applied in a case where the falling body is connected to a fixed point.
