[Class 106 (i).] Abacuses.-An abacus bead or counter is subdivided and each fraction is capable of being swung out from the remainder and if necessary detached. In the form shown in Fig. 1 the fractional parts g, i are removably supported between the flanges of the sleeve a. The upper flange is bent over to engage recesses k in the parts and the lower flange carries an elastic washer having shaped arms to enter recesses l. In the modification, Fig. 3, each part is hinged to the sleeve, the lower end of which is composed of a pair of slotted discs o, p adjustably drawn together by screws q to hold frictionally the ball-ended pins m inserted in the parts.
