Process for obtaining high grade cellulose from soiled and disintegrated vegetable fibres, particularly from cotton wastes such as linters, hull fibre and spinning mill wastes
347,444. Cellulose. KAMMERL, H., 19A, Aachenerstrasse, D³ren, Rhineland, Germany. April 1, 1930, No. 10345. Convention date, Nov. 12, 1929. [Class 96.] In the preparation of high grade cellulose from cotton wastes such as linters, hull fibre and spinning mill wastes, the greatest part of the impurities is first separated by the use of a sieveless centrifuge after which the pectins, waxes and fats embedded in the fibres are dissolved out by bucking or gentle boiling. The consumption of chemicals used in the process is thus considerably reduced and the loss in yield of cellulose associated with prolonged boiling operations is avoided. In an example described, waste linters containing 23-5 per cent of non-cellulosic material are beaten up with water in a hollander and then run through a sieveless centrifuge. The separated cellulose material containing 4-8 per cent dry non-cellulosic material is treated for 1 hour at 80‹ C. with a 1 per cent alkaline soap solution, then washed and bleached with calcium hypochlorite solution.
