347,976. Electric control of sluices. INTERNATIONAL GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Inc., 120, Broadway, New York, U.S.A.-(Assignees of Allgemeine Elektricitõts Ges.; 2, Friedrich Karl - Ufer, Berlin.) July 18, 1930, No. 21798. Convention date, July 24, 1929. [Class 68 (ii).] The volume of water passing through a weir is set to any desired value and maintained thus automatically by electric control apparatus. Fig. 1 shows a sluice-gate a, b moved by a power unit c controlled by a float e operating a control device d, shown in Figs. 3 and 4. When the waterlevel rises, a disc n is rotated clockwise until the brush n3 contacts with the segment n2, making a circuit from the positive head of the main through the pivot of the lever r, contacts, ring q, bracket 3, segment n2, ring p, brush p1, and contact v of a hand-lever to a relay fh, whence the gate a is lifted. This movement is transmitted through the gear wheel h to the clutch l, k and the bracket 3 and brush n3, breaking the contact with the segment n2, and stopping the movement of the gate a. When the water level falls, the movements of the parts are similar, the relay fs being energized through the segment n1. When the lever r is moved over to the contact t the apparatus is set for manual control, the parts i, q being clutched together, with the parts n1, n2, n3 disconnected as shown in Fig. 4. To move the gate a, a hand switch y is moved so as to complete a circuit from + u through contact x to finger v or w, and thence through relay fs or fh to - u.
