[Class 80 (iii).] In cam mechanism, for use in devices for evaluating mathematical functions, for example mean-speed indicators, wherein the slider 3 is moved in a straight line, circle, or other curve by engagement with a face or other cam 1 with crossing grooves or with other features which provide insufficient constraint for the slider, one or more auxiliary sliders 12 connected to the slider 3, as by the swinging driven arm 4, engage auxiliary cam surfaces 13 on the cam so that there is always at least one slide which is constrained in a definite manner. The additional cam surface 13 may be formed on the back surface of the cam and be engaged by a spring-pressed slider 12. The surfaces 13 may be employed only at the points where constraint is defective and may be flush with the surface of the cam and bounded by guide surfaces. Where a weak motor such as a clockwork device drives the cam, it may be stopped at the end of the effective cam movement by the slider striking an abutment on the cam, or, where a stronger motor is used, the slider may be guided to move constantly over the outer surface of the cam. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) shows a cam with more convolutions than that described above, with additional auxiliary cam guides 13. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
