356,912. Weighing-apparatus. WEBB, Ltd., W. A. and BEAL, C. S., 4, Skinner Street, Clerkenwell, London. Aug. 19, 1930, No. 24759. [Class 143.] In a weighing scale or balance of the type in which equipoise is effected by means of a flexible linear. element (a chain) suspended at one end from the scale beam and attached at the other end to a vertically movable carrier, the latter is attached to an endless sprocket chain running on sprocket wheels contained in a vertical pillar, and rotated through gearing by means of a handle external to the casing, means being provided to tension the chain. The sprocket chain 9 contained in a rectangular sectioned pillar 1 is mounted on sprocket wheels 8, 81, the former being mounted in a stirrup 7 attached to a bolt 6, rotation of a cap 5 adjusting the tension in the chain 9. The sprocket 81 is connected through a shaft or other suitable gearing to an external wheel. The carrier comprises a channelled metal element 13, Fig. 3, fixed to the chain 9, and connected by screws 16 to a member 14, and an arm 15 to which at 18 is attached the counterpoise chain. A vernier scale on the bevelled edge 19 of the member 14 may be used in co-operation with a scale on the pillar 1. Specification 155,802, [Class 143, Weighing-apparatus], is referred to.
