357,136. Microphotographs of books. TIPECSKA, G. and MACH, L., 2, Schraudolfstrasse, Munich, Germany. June 13, 1930, No. 18193. [Classes 97 (i), 98 (i), and 98 (ii).] A lantern slide 28, Fig. 10, having microscopic images of the pages of a book or other matter with marginal indexes on the sides is made by first making a negative on a reduced scale and reproducing this negative with further image reduction to microscopic proportions. A slide holder is described having key-controlled means for stepping the slide in two transverse directions and scales for approximately positioning any image in a central aperture for projection. Apparatus described for making the slide comprises a camera 1, Fig. 1, for making the negative. The sensitive plate 5 is slidably mounted in a second slide which is adjustable in a transverse direction. One or a group of pages are successively mounted on the holder 2. The negative so produced is further reduced to obtain the desired micro-images by a camera 14, Fig. 5, in which both the negative 5 and sensitive plate 13 are mounted to move in two directions relatively to the lens 19, synchronous movement being obtained by a pivoted arm 24. The microslide holder, Figs. 12 and 13, comprises a base 34 with a central aperture for projection, a frame 36 vertically movable on the base, and a slide-holder frame 37 transversely movable on the frame 36. The slide is held on the frame 37, by springs 39, against an angle-piece 40. The frame 36 is urged downwards by a spring head 42 and is stepped by a key S which controls a double pawl escapement engaging a fixed rack 43 on the base. The rack 43 also carries a scale 45 over which a scaled arm 46 on the slide holder 37 moves. The transverse movement of the slide carrier frame 37 on the frame 36 is obtained by a pinion 44 and rack movement, operated either from the key Z through a pawl and ratchet movement 49, 50, or by a hand knob 41 on the pinion shaft. The position of the slide 28 vertically and horizontally is determined by the scales 45, 46 which correspond to the co-ordinate marginal indexes on the slide.
