Improved process of re-utilizing old vulcanized rubber

Old vulcanized rubber (with or without cotton content) is disintegrated and mixed with a small amount of a dispersion of raw rubber in a volatile solvent. The mass is spread out and allowed to dry in a non-actinic light at a temperature not exceeding 212 DEG F. In an example 32 lbs. of old vulcanized rubber are disintegrated, mixed with 4 ozs. of unvulcanized rubber dispersed in 2 gallons benzene, and dried in a non-actinic light. The stock, which may be improved by a preliminary heat-pressure treatment, is used for making soft rubber articles by moulding and revulcanization in known manner.
