361,414. Training aviators. WHITING, J. R. S., Brown Eaves, Beavers Hill, Farnham, Surrey, and LETCHER, T. C., The Vineries, Gurnard, Isle of Wight. Aug. 21, 1930, No. 25021. [Class 4.] For teaching pilots and demonstrating the working of aeroplane controls a man-carrying aeroplane or glider 2 is suspended on gimbals at its centre of gravity in a wind tunnel 1 with freedom to move vertically, and the wind tunnel motor 6' is controllable from the cockpit in order to vary the apparent air speed in imitation of conditions prevailing during actual flight. This air speed control may be operated in conjunction with the engine control of the aeroplane. The aeroplane support moves in vertical guides 8 and cables 9 may be attached to counterweights to familiarize the pilot with the behaviour of machines of different weights.
