Feb. 4, 1931, No. 3535, [Class 96.] Apparatus for preparing bamboo and the like for pulp manufacture comprises two or more pairs of co-operating horizontal rolls in series, one or more pairs 1, 11, Fig. 1, of which are longitudinally fluted and one or more pairs circumferentially grooved, at least one pair 2, 21 of the latter having main V-shaped circumferential grooves 6, Fig. 7, in the sides of which grooves are formed secondary grooves 7 and counterpart projections or wedges 8 as described in Specification 216,434. Preferably two or more consecutive pairs of rollers 2, 21, 3, 31, have such circumferential grooves. The rolls 2, 21 are also, and the rolls 3, 31 may be also, helically grooved.
