364,822. Tobacco. GENERALDIREKTION DER ÍSTERR - TABAKREGIE, 51, Porzellangasse, Vienna. Dec. 24, 1930, No. 38848. Convention date, Dec. 27, 1929. [Class 130.] Denicotining is effected by superheated steam preceded by a flow of hot air or other non-condensing medium. The tobacco is placed on superposed trays 3 in a chamber 4 in a receptacle 2. Air electrically heated by elements 24 and circulated by a fan 6 passes through divergent passages to openings 11 with further heating elements 22. Exhaust openings opposite to the nozzles allow the air to pass upwardly by passages 13 common to all the chambers, after which it is recirculated. Inlet and outlet valves 20, 21 regulate the supply. When the temperature is sufficient to avoid condensation, the air supply is stopped, and superheated steam supplied through the pipe 23 and heating chamber 25. Thermostats 27 are fitted. The openings 11 may be individually controlled by flap valves 19. Slotted sheets 17, 18 above and below the incoming air and steam promote uniform treatment.
