[Classes 122 (i), 122 (ii), and 122 (iv).] In reversible, multiple-cylinder engines with oscillating cams, the cam motion is taken from eccentrics on a transverse countershaft driven by worm wheels from the main shaft. The eccentrics for adjustment and reversal are moved transversely to an operating-sleeve by hand-controlled helical gearing. Eccentrics 11, 12, 13 through rocker levers oscillate the cams for controlling the valves in the housings 7 .. 10. The eccentrics are mounted on a hollow shaft 14, and each has a slot 18 by means of which it is guided. The slots are arranged at 120‹. A sleeve 20 is arranged within the shaft 14 and is provided with three inclinedteeth portions a, b, c which through apertures in the shaft 14 engage the eccentrics. The sleeve is moved longitudinally by screw-andnut mechanism; the nut 25 is guided in a sleeve 23 and carries an extension 27 by which it operates the sleeve 20.
