372,885. Wagon sides and floors: skips: riveted joints. ALLEN & SONS (TIPTON), Ltd., W. G., WEDDELL, A., and TOLHURST, W. T., Princes. End, Tipton, Staffordshire. March 13, 1931, No. 7760. [Class 103 (iv).] In a pit tub, wagon, skip or like receptacle of the kind, e.g. as described in Specification 259,773, [Class 103 (iv), Railway &c. vehicles, Body details &c. of], in which the sides, ends and base are provided with interengaging hook edges, these parts, after an initial positioning, are assembled by imparting to the ends (or sides, as the case may be) a vertical movement relative to the base so as to engage one set of hooks, and then imparting to the sides (or ends) an outward horizontal movement so as to engage the remaining hooks. In the flatbottomed pit tub body shown in Figs. 1, 2 and 3, the ends of the base are provided with outwardly and downwardly bent hooks c, d, while the sides thereof have upwardly and inwardly turned hooks e, f, the ends g of the tub having a lower set of hooks g2 which are first engaged with the hooks c, d by a vertical movement, while the sides h have a lower set of hooks h2 adapted subsequently to engage with the hooks e, f, and side hooks h3 adapted to engage with side hooks g3 on the ends g, each side h for this purpose being given an outward horizontal movement. Rivets are finally passed through the parts to unite them securely. A modification is described in which the sides h have rounded corners, and corner cleats are employed at each corner of the base as described in Specification 349,368. In a further construction the invention is applied to a well-bottomed tub equipped with removable buffer beams as described in Specification 355,471.
