[Class 34 (ii).] Tea or other material is dried in an apparatus shown in plan in Fig. 2, being fed by a conveyer 16 to the top of a chamber 2 containing a series of superposed endless bands constructed of pivoted slats, the material falling from band to band at alternate ends and being discharged by a screw conveyer into a hopper 10 and by another conveyer 11 into a receiver 13. Air from a heater 1 is blown by a fan 4 in a direction transverse to the endless bands through a duct 3 into the bottom of the chamber and issues from the top. Materials which have fallen to the bottom of the chamber are blown across the chamber, and on operating a shutter or shutters may be collected in a receptacle 15 and removed without stopping the machine.
