[Class 122 (iii).] In a plant comprising a primary high-pressure steam plant II and a low-pressure plant I, the heating in the high-pressure plant is increased or decreased in accordance with an increase or a decrease in the requirements of the points of consumption of the low-pressure plant. Steam is generated in a boiler 7 and fed to an engine 9 which drives an electric generator, a part of the heat of the exhaust is extracted in an exchanger 11 through which also flows in a separate circuit the working medium of the plant I. The steam from the boiler 1 is fed to an engine 3 which drives an electric generator 12, and to steam consumption elements 4. The exhaust from engine 3 passes to a condenser 5, the condensate of which is returned partly to the boiler 1 and is circulated in part through the exchanger 11 by the pump 6. The vapour generated is fed by pipe 15 to the boiler 1. The condensate in the exchanger 11 from the exhaust of the engine 9 is returned by the pump 10 to the boiler 7. The furnace 8 of the boiler 7 is controlled by the pressure in boiler 1 or by the quantity of steam delivered therefrom. Furnace 2 of boiler 1 may be controlled in accordance with the output of the low-pressure plant. The load on the engine 3, or the consumption of the elements 4 may control the furnace 8. The generators 12, 13 may supply the same or different mains. The engine 3 and generator 12 may be replaced by an independent main. The plant II may be used for mechanical energy, and the plant I for heating only.
