[Class 83 (iv).] A metal sheet or plate is held at its edges between grippers 10 while a shaping die 6 is pressed up into it to shape it. Each pair of grippers 10 are geared together, are opened by handles 12, and are eccentric with teeth to increase the grip as shaping proceeds. The tensioning of the sheet smooths out any surface deformation. Parts for vehicle bodies may be shaped in the press. The grippers extend from side to side of the press and are secured to blocks which are adjustable horizontally along the frame.
