[Class 97 (iii).] Relates to apparatus for automatically correcting the indications of recording gas calorimeters for variations in temperature and pressure, so that the calorific value indicated is that of gas under the same temperature and pressure conditions as the gas the heating value of which is to be ascertained, viz. the gas passing through a gas works meter. A galvanometer G is provided with two windings. One winding E1 measures the calorific value of the gas, for example by means of thermo-electric couples D1, D2 in the inlet and outlet to the calorimeter K of the cooling fluid which may be supplied from a water meter J coupled to the meter I supplying gas to the burner B. The second winding E2 measures the difference between the temperature of gas passing at the gas works meter and the gas passing at the meter I by means of thermo-electric couples C1, C2 respectively and applies a temperature correction to the galvanometer indication. The pressure correction is applied by two liquid pressure gauges M1, M2, measuring the pressure at the gas works meter, for example by communicating with the inlet or outlet pipe A of the gas works meter (not shown). Each gauge has a branch forming a reservoir for liquid in which dips a counterweight balancing the bell of a pressure regulator. One regulator R1 is placed in the inlet and the other regulator R2 in the outlet of the meter I so that variations in pressure at the gas works meter may be transmitted to the meter I in the required ratio to correct the calorific value. The indications of the galvanometer G may be used with an integrating device to give the product of the volume measured at the gas works meter and the calorific value of the gas.
