An improved form of perforate body adapted for use in aerating or carbonating liquids, for separating liquids from solids, for emulsifying immiscible ingredients and other like purposes
PICT:0398114/III/1 Apparatus for emulsifying immiscible ingredients comprises a perforate body formed of a plurality of peripherally flanged metal plates d assembled and clamped together on a central stem a, and having on their abutting faces shallow annular ribs e which cause the interior plane areas of the adjacent flanges to be spaced apart forming recesses f, the ribs e being intersected at frequent intervals by notches g cut into the flanges from the external surfaces thereof. The depths of the recesses f may be about one to three thousandths of an inch. The flanged plates d are held between end plates b, c. The notches g may be arranged in staggered relation in adjacent plates, a stud o passing through appropriately spaced apertures in the plates being provided to enable the alignment to be more readily effected. The stem a may have a central bore j communicating with longitudinal slots h formed on the external surface thereof. The plates d may also be apertured at i to provide free passage for the fluid inside the body, which in the form shown is secured to the base m of a tank or vat for the material to be treated. The mixed ingredients to be emulsified may be forced through the body in either direction.
