Convention date, June 20, 1931. Addition to 371,235. [Class 97 (iii).] A transverse velocity meter controls a moment producer for applying a correcting torque to the pendulum described in the parent Specification upon side slip of the aircraft when the latter is set in accordance with an incorrect inclination of the pendulum. In the form shown, an electro-magnetic, hydraulic, or pneumatic moment producer 25, 26 on the axis 3 of the pendulum 2 is controlled by a contact lever 35 actuated by opposed pressure gauges 32, 33 which are connected by pipes 31, 30 respectively to apertures 29, 28 in the sides of a streamlined surface 27. Side slip of the aircraft causes movement of the lever 35 and the application of a torque to the axis 3. Consequent precession of the gyro 4 causes the pilot to steer in a curved path, whereupon. the gyro 5 corrects the pendulum by applying a torque to the precession axis 8 through moment producer 20, 21 in a manner similar to that described in the parent application. The lever 35 may be arranged to bring the moment producers 25, 26 and 20, 21 into operation simultaneously in which case the correction gyro 5 may be dispensed with.
