[Class 81 (ii).] An instrument for assisting parturi tion comprises a hollow cup having a substantially egg shaped resilient mouth, a handle detachably secured thereto, passages communicating between the cup and the atmosphere and means for interrupting said communication. The cup 1 with resilient edge 2 may be entirely of resilient material or parts thereof, for example the sleeve portion 7, may be of metal or other rigid material. The sleeve 7 fits over the end 10 of a handle 3 and is secured as by a metal band 4 and screw 5, or a quick acting thread. A narrow air duct 9 communicates with a passage 12 leading into a radial passage 13 open to the atmosphere but adapted to be closed by a rubber band 14 or a valve. The handle is corrugated at 15.
