[Class 122 (v).] In a rubbing collar packing, a member 9, having radial and partly spherical packing surfaces 7, 14 respectively engaging rotary and stationary members 6, 16, is cooled by circulation of water through passages 10 therein. The member 6 is formed as a stuffing-box pressed axially by springs 10 abutting against a collar 1 clamped to the shaft 3. Additional packing-rings 19, 20 enclosed in casings 17 and pressed axially by springs 23 may be provided.
