Process of and apparatus for the production of solid carbon dioxide or analogous solid substances derived from commercially liquefiable gases such as acetylene, butane, methylchloride, oxygen or ammonia or compatible mixtures of easily liquefiable gases
412,543. Solidifying gases. HESSLING, W., 33, Quai Wilson, Geneva, Switzerland. Sept. 22, 1932, No. 26422. Void [Abridged as open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts, Sept. 23, 1932]. [Class 8 (ii).] Liquid carbon dioxide, or other commercially liquefiable gas such as butane, methyl chloride, acetylene, oxygen or ammonia, is expanded through a nozzle 3 to a pressure below triple point pressure, and the gas withdrawn, leaving a body of the solid. Gas is then passed into the container through or into the body of solid at a pressure above triple point pressure, causing the formation of liquid which impregnates the solid, and the pressure is then reduced causing resolidification. The latter process may be repeated forming layers of compacted solid. The snow may be deposited on a grating 7, gas being supplied and withdrawn either above or below the body of solid ; alternatively the lower end of the container may be perforated, gas supply and withdrawal conduits connecting with the perforations.
