[Class 142 (i).] A needle for use in jacquard mechanism for weaving, knitting, lace-making or hosiery or in loom dobbies has an eve to receive the dobby or jacquard hook formed by one or two members, including at least one hooklike member, which project laterally or laterally and upwards or downwards from the needle. The eye forming members are of such shape that, in the normal position of the needle, the dobby or jacquard hook is encircled, but a gap is left between the end of the single hook and the needle or between the ends of two projections to facilitate detachment of the jacquard hook or the needle. The eye may be formed by bending the needle A to form two projections a1, a2, Figs. 4, which surround the jacquard hook C, or the projections may be formed as metal stampings which may be welded to the needle or to a tubular member a4, Fig. 12, for attachment thereto. Fig. 16 shows a needle with a single hook like projection a7 which extends upwardly and outwardly to encircle the jacquard hook. In a further modification, shown in Fig. 19, the eye is formed by bending the needle into a hook-like member a5 which lies in a horizontal plane, the gap for withdrawal of the hook C being formed by a depression a6 in the needle. A bifurcated tool is provided for isolating a row of needles in the jacquard when a hook or a needle is to be detached, the latter operation being effected by raising the jacquard hook or turning and withdrawing the needle.
