[Class 110 (iii).] A method of manufacturing guide-blade wheels for turbines entails the mounting of annular bands 1 in slots formed in carrierrings 2, by tack-welding 4, inserting the blades 6 in apertures in the bands, and welding masses of metal 9 around the blade ends. Dovetail, or other shaped ends, are then turned as indicated by the dotted lines in Fig. 4, for mounting the blade-rings, after the bands 1 have been cut where indicated by the arrow in Fig. 4, between two plates secured together by rivets or otherwise, the whole guide-blade unit being bolted to the turbine casing. The two plates may be separated in part by a groove to produce a tighter clamping joint. In a modified form of blade, the inner periphery is formed with an inwardly projecting sealing edge. The guidewheel may be formed in two halves. One band 1, only, may be welded to its carrier-ring, the other band being free in its slot.
