425,734. Ships' propulsion apparatus. BRAGARD, J. P. V., Boujailles, Doubs, France. June 8, 1934, No. 17054. Convention date, Jan. 4. [Classes 113 (i) and 114] Air jet apparatus for reducing resistance to and also for effecting propulsion comprises internal distributing tubes with flat faces riveted directly to the hull plating, the faces having perforations registering with perforations in the hull. The perforations in the hull are inclined and there may be an outer deflecting plate, these arrangements being modified according as the unit is used for lubrication, or propulsion ahead or propulsion astern. The tube DC is secured to the bottom and side plating and is connected through a valve V with a compressor. Each tube is preferably made from a plate with a section 24 that has perforations 26, the plate being riveted at 221 to the hull, the sides then being bent up and the edges 22 riveted to complete the tube. The completing riveting may be effected along the middle of the face opposite the section 24 instead of along a corner. The port and starboard sections of a tube may be separate and each have a valve connection with the compressor.
