[Class 6 (ii)] [See also Group XXXVI] In apparatus for conducting lightning and preventing thunder and hail storms, in which radio - active substances are employed, the effect of these substances is increased by means of a difference of potential created between an earthed metallic member and a second metallic member connected to radio - active terminals which bring this member to the potential of the atmospheric layer into which they project. The first metallic member comprises a conductor rod 1 which passes through an insulator 2 having radio-active salts on its surface or in its outer layer. The second metallic member consists of a metallic ring 4 supported by a second insulator 3. It is separated from the rod 1 and carries three pointed rods 5 each provided with a radioactive fitting 6 near its point 7.
