432,285. Trueing rotating tools. HEARD, F. G., 4, Oakington Avenue, Harrow Garden Village, Middlesex. Jan. 26, 1934, No. 2782. [Class 60] The operative surfaces of the grinding and control wheels of a centreless grinding-machine are trued in succession by a single cutter under the control of a single cam or former. The former A is of circular cross-section and is supported by the rest E, and adjusted and secured by screws A1, A2 and distance-pieces A3 passing through the heads of bolts A4, the screws being mounted in arms D2 secured to the rest, and carrying a bar D3. On this bar is slidable, by means of a screw H, a housing D, in which is slidable transversely a carrier C having downwardly projecting parts C3, C4 provided with coaxial rectangular openings to receive a block B2, held in position by a screw B4. The block receives a tapered holder B carrying a diamond or other cutting-point B and on the rear end of the block is a steel rod or wire tracer B3, which engages with the former A, being held there against by a spring plate F secured to the housing D by a screw F1 ; cooling liquid is supplied by a nozzle G projecting through the plate F, and a similar plate F is provided on the opposite face of the housing. In operation, the housing is moved parallel to the axis of the grinding-wheel X, by the screw H, the block B2 lying in the opening C5 and being moved in the housing towards and from the axis of the wheel by the cam. The block is then moved to the opening C6, and the control wheel Y is similarly shaped. In a modification, the housing D is carried by a slide located above the wheels X, Y.
