[Class 75 (ii)] Shades, globes, or bowls for lamps are made by applying fibrous material, paper or the like, e.g. pieces of thin, absorbent, unglazed paper, and a binding agent, e.g. water-glass or a mixture of casein and sodium silicate, layer by layer to a former, without compression by means of dies or moulds, and by treating the coating on the former before drying with beating tools provided with pointed metal needles or with bristles or rubber points. The binding agent may contain dyes or bleaching agents ; the shade may be made of materials of different natures; and the shade may be painted or varnished. The former may be made of wood or of frangible or fusible material, e.g. plaster of Paris or cement, to facilitate removal after use. Liquid paraffin or other material may be applied to the former before coating to prevent the shade from adhering to the former.
