PICT:0445927/III/1 Apparatus for converting liquids into solids or semi-solids by polymerization &c. reactions comprises a plurality of chambers a through which a heating or cooling fluid flows and a plurality of frames b disposed each between two chambers so as to enclose a reaction space. The units may be supported by rollers k on rails f and pressed together between heads h, h1. The faces of the heat-regulating chambers may have any desired configuration and may, e.g. have ribs which divide the reaction space into a number of separate compartments. To prevent adhesion of the reaction product to the walls of the spaces separating layers of viscose, gelatine, glue, impregnated fabric, &c., may be provided or the material may be enclosed in bags or envelopes of such material. The apparatus is particularly suitable for carrying out the process described in Specification 445,478. Specification 417,999 also is referred to.
