[Classes 64 (i) and 123 (ii)] In a steam power plant in which the feed to a boiler 1 is preheated in a heater 5 by bled or exhaust steam from the engine 3 and is then stored in an accumulator 12, the feed is heated further in a heater 11 between the preheater 5 and the accumulator, and the supply of live steam or the supply of feedwater to the heater 11 is governed by the live steam pressure. The steam supply valve 16 of the heater 11 allows steam to flow from the main 2 to the heater when a certain steam pressure is exceeded, and it is also governed to prevent the steam pressure rising in the accumulator above a predetermined limit and to open and close when the accumulator is fully discharged or charged. The water supply valve 10 is governed by the pressure in the heater or accumulator or by the temperature of the heated water. In a modification, the heater is arranged below the top of the accumulator and hot water is forced by a pump from the heater either directly into the boiler or into the top of the accumulator, which is discharged by the upward pressure of cold water supplied at its lower end by the feed pump.
