[Class 40 (v)] A " resonator" valve of the kind described in Specifications 427,528, 428,258, 429,863, 433,026, 433,681, 449,920, and 452,490, is used to generate an ultra-short-wave carrier modulated by one or more intermediatefrequency sub-carriers on which various broadcast programmes or other signals, such as sound and television, or stock-exchange notices, are radiated simultaneously. The sub-carrier waves may be radiated at equal strength, or one may differ in strength from another, so that receivers of different sensitivity may be used as a means of selection. The transmitting and receiving aerials are mounted as high as possible, and are coupled to the highfrequency apparatus through feed-lines coaxial with the resonating chamber.
