N - Chloroazodicarbonamidines such as N - dichloroazodicarbonamidine are prepared by reacting a hydrazo- or azo-dicarbonamidine or salt thereof with a hypochlorite or hypochlorous acid preferably in aqueous solution at low temperatures. Such substances include N - monochloronaphthaquinoneimide, N - di - chloroquinonediimide, N - monochloroquinoneimide, N - monochlorodibromquinoneimide, N - monochloromethylquinoneimide, and N-monochlorodichlorquinoneimide. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.ALSO:N-Chloroazodicarbonamidines may be used as fungicides, germicides, preservatives, or prophylactics. They may be used in solution or in the form of suspensions containing protective colloids, and may be used in admixture with phosphates or silicates to prevent corrosive action on metals.
