[Class 87 (ii)] Apparatus for moulding perforated bricks comprises a mould 4 having a number of piercing elements or pegs 7 projecting from the base and two movable dies 11, 8, the former of which is carried by a vertically movable frame 10, the lower die 8 being supported loosely by rods 9 projecting from the frame. The die 8 is formed with openings 14 through which the pegs 7 pass when the die is lowered, and the die 11 is formed with corresponding openings 15 to receive the ends of the pegs. The openings 15 lead to an opening 16 to receive surplus material pushed by the pegs 7 into the openings 15. The moulding process is carried out by placing a quantity of clay on the die 8 and then lowering the frame 10 by a screw 13. The die 8 descends on the rods 9, the rods 7 passing through the openings 14 and through the clay supported on the die 8, When the die 8 reaches the bottom of the mould it remains stationary while the frame 10 continues to descend causing the die 11 to enter the mould and compress the clay. Bosses 14a may be formed on the die 8 to form corresponding recesses in the face of the brick.
