[Class 85] A composite lining for a tunnel or like structure comprises layers of concrete, waterproof material and composition slabs or blocks of sound absorbing material, the lining having drainage channels between the concrete and waterproof layers and leading to a sump or outlet. In a tunnel lined with iron segments 2, and caulked with lead 1 if required, concrete filling 3 is applied, with or without an inner plaster filling 31, the filling projecting beyond the flanges of the segments ; longitudinal channels 5 or circumferential channels 6 or both are left in the filling for drainage, and channels 5 may be partly closed by spaced blocks of wood, concrete &c. One or more layers 8 of bituminous sheeting are then applied to the filling and strips of such sheeting may be applied along the edges of the flanges of segments 2. Keying material 9, such as shingle, is provided on the sheeting 8/ and blocks 10 of pumice cement &c. are set firmly against the sheeting by cement &c. 91 to form an arch supported at its foot by structures 11 bolted to the segments 2 and including a drainage gutter 13 to which the channels 5, 6, lead through a space 14 sealed off by sheeting 15, 16. The blocks 10 may have tongue and groove &c. joints and have an inner coat 17 of pumice &c. plaster applied thereto. Specification 368,041, [Group V], is referred to.
