[Class 55 (ii)] Smoke is washed at the top of a chimney by water sprayers 2 projecting hollow conical jets of water against the chimney or a sleeve 11 therein or a tube 8 fitted thereabove. Water under pressure is fed by pipes 3 tangentially into sprays 2 and projected as shown transversely of the gas. Water is collected by an inclined trough 9 at its base and discharged at 10. The tube 8 may be fitted with an elbow or may be of inverted-V-shape with sprayers therein and with a trough at the base of the arm outside the chimney.
