Method of stabilization of the products obtained by polymerization of extremely viscous oils of the series of fat by means of the boron fluoride

Non-drying and semi-drying oils, polymerized in the presence of boron trifluoride, are stabilized before addition to lubricants by the addition of 5 to 300 per cent (or, preferably, 50 to 300 per cent), of a lubricating-oil or grease. The addition may take place before, during, or after working up the polymerizate. In examples (1) soya bean oil, (2) a mixture of rapeseed and sunflower oils, (3) a mixture of rapeseed and cottonseed oils is polymerized in the presence of boron trifluoride, repeatedly washed with 96 per cent ethyl alcohol and the alcohol removed by distillation. The polymerizates were mixed with an equal part, half a part, and two parts of lubricating-oil, respectively. Specifications 428,993 and 465,825 are referred to.
