[Class 51 (i)] The upper part of the checker brickwork assembly for a furnace regenerator is constructed of bricks in the form of right parallelopipeds some being of standard size 9" x 4¢" x 2¢" and others 10“" x 4¢" x 2¢". The checker brickwork is arranged with the bricks in adjacent courses disposed crosswise to provide vertical and transverse passages for air and gases as shown. Course C is formed of standard bricks 26. Courses B which alternate with courses A and are arranged longitudinally of the regenerator are formed of standard bricks 26 except adjacent to the walls where long bricks 27 are employed, while courses A are formed of rows of standard bricks 26 and, to provide wells 25 in the checkerwork, rows of long bricks 27, some of which are spaced apart. Interlocking bricks 23 of the form shown in Fig. 12 are used to form an upper course. The lower part of the regenerator is also formed of bricks 23.
