488,929. Hair - curling appliances. EUGENE, Ltd. Jan. 15, 1937, No. 1196. Convention date, Jan. 17, 1936. [Class 131] The invention relates to devices for winding hair on a curler rod, comprising jaws spring-pressed together, the jaws being formed with transverse grooves a2 in coincident positions upon their inner faces to grip the hair tress, the tress in winding being held between the prongs of a comb b mounted at the outer end of one of the jaws. According to the invention, the jaws are formed with outwardly inclined flanges a5, a6 and one of the jaws together with its flange a6 is divided to form separate elastic tongue pieces a7 which can accommodate themselves to the turns of the hair in winding it on the curler rod. The jaws are formed by bending a springy metal sheet a1. The comb is secured to the flange a5 by screws b1 and has a pivoted metal bar d movable into the dotted position shown after the hair has been placed in position between the comb teeth. Fig. 3 shows the method of using the device and also shows a hook c1 formed on a metal plate c for securing the bar d. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 states that (1) the comb b may be moulded from synthetic resin ; (2) one of the flanges serves as a comb ; and (3) the curler may be a tubular rod with a concentric pin to permit rotation of the outer part. This subjectmatter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
